FRENCH RIVER BEAR OUTFITTERS

In 1999 the Ontario government cancelled the Spring Black Bear season for residents and non - residents.  Therefore, bears could only be harvested during the Fall season since that date.  The consequences of this are that the population of bears within the province has expanded massively.  With that said, due to the lack of pressure put on by hunters, the average size for mature bears is much larger as well.  The amount of large trophy bears is much greater than ever before.  For example, French River Bear Outfitters harvested this enormous boar in 2010.  It's weight was estimated at 900 - 1000 pounds.  It could only be estimated because it was so big and died in an area that was difficult to access.  It has a skull measurement of 21 12/16 inches which recorded number two in the province of Ontario at the time.

Throughout 2015 there were 1,700 recorded nuisance bear problems in the city of Sudbury and an additional 2,200 bear sightings within the city limits.  Sudbury is a city located no more than 35 miles from the centre of French River Bear Outfitters BMA. To put that statistic into perspective, approximately 1,200 recorded nuisance bear problems are recorded annually in the entire State of Pennsylvania.

Hunters will be hunting over baited sites on safe and comfortable stands located approximately 15 - 20 yards from the bait, with clear shooting lanes.  The stands are primarily ladder stands with the exception of a few hang - on stands.  If you are most comfortable in your own treestand, feel free to bring it along.  Comfort is one of the main secrets to success.  The bait itself is all biodegradable matter that is rich in nutrients, carbohydrates and protein for the bears.  All sites are baited daily a full 2 weeks prior to the beginning of season as per the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's regulations.  Each hunter will be provided with multiple active sites to ensure his or her success.  All bait sites have been designed with you, the hunter in mind.

Weather is always unpredictable with temperatures varying between 35 - 80 degrees Fahrenheit in the Spring and 50 - 90 in the Fall.  In the Spring, when temperatures rise to 60 degrees and above, Blackflies are present.  Do not underestimate the harshness of this element and come prepared.  You should try to seal out all insects with a full body bug suit and even duct tape pant cuffs and shirt sleeves.
